Thanks for coming to my photography site! My name is Katie Cotton, and I have been a professional makeup artist for almost 20 years. I have lived and worked all over the country including the midwest where I grew up and then out in Los Angeles where I worked as a makeup artist in Hollywood. After the birth of my first son, my husband and I decided to relocate to South Carolina. After our relocation, I felt like something was missing. I thought perhaps it was the additional creative aspect of working on large scale productions, doing outlandish makeup and styling. So I decided to learn a little bit about photography, even if only to play now and then.
Once I got a camera into my hands, I just fell in love all over again seeing fashion and beauty in yet a whole new light. I felt like learning the ins and outs of what goes into taking a good photo would also only better my makeup artistry so I began getting photo gear in 2009 and started training with photographers I had worked with and trusted. In 2010 I had my very first true "photoshoot" and started exploring many different types of shoots. There are so many extremely talented photographers in the Greenville area! The idea of breaking into "their field" when I already work steadily as a makeup artist in the area was a little bit daunting! But I loved working on the other side of the camera! I knew that underlying my passion for beauty in makeup artistry was helping someone to feel extraordinary. This is something I like to carry on into my photography work. Because of this, I tended to focus my training and passion with photography on photographing women. This is also when I discovered "boudoir photography" and I absolutely fell in LOVE with everything about it! It is such an intimate occasion, and I feel that someone can be comfortable with their makeup artist taking the photos. That doesnt go to say that I do not enjoy other aspects of photography, though I do still like an more intimate setting. I love shooting Glam Sessions, Maternity, Headshots and Beauty shots for all people.
And while I do love photography and learning all about it, I should note that I do NOT do any wedding photography. That requires an entire different level of skill set and I believe such a special moment should be entrusted to a true professional in that field. I would be happy to give you recommendations!!
When booked for a photography session, you get to book all of me which includes makeup and hair! It's great for budgets because you can get 2 for the price of one! That being said, I am still more than happy to be booked for makeup only and not photography and to even be booked for photography only and not with makeup in addition.
